Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be one of the biggest RPG releases of 2027.
Square Enix showed off new gameplay during Gamescom 2026, giving players another look at the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
The biggest change isn’t only what we’re seeing in the game.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in spring 2027.
For a remake project that began its life closely associated with PlayStation, that’s a major shift.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Goes Multiplatform
Final Fantasy VII Remake originally launched on PS4 in 2020 before expanding to other platforms.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth followed in 2024.
With Revelation, Square Enix isn’t making Xbox, Nintendo or PC players wait.
The final chapter is scheduled to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC at the same time.
That gives significantly more players the opportunity to experience the conclusion when it launches.
The Weapons Are Back
The latest Gamescom trailer puts a major focus on the Weapons.
These enormous creatures serve as guardians of the planet, and longtime Final Fantasy VII players will recognize some familiar names.
Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon are all returning.
Square Enix says some Weapons will appear as extremely challenging endgame battles inspired by their appearances in the original Final Fantasy VII.
That could make them some of the toughest fights in Revelation.
The Highwind Opens Up the World
Revelation is also expanding how players explore.
Cloud and his companions will gain access to the Highwind airship as their journey reaches its final stages.
The latest footage shows the party taking to the skies, while other sequences feature underwater exploration, submarine combat, Chocobo riding, parachuting and grappling.
Square Enix is promising a world without boundaries, which could make Revelation the largest entry in the remake trilogy.
Classic Final Fantasy Jobs Are Getting a New Twist
Another interesting addition is the FITS system.
FITS gives party members outfits and combat roles inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs.
The Gamescom footage showed Tifa dressed as a Black Mage, for example.
Rather than functioning purely as cosmetic outfits, these roles can provide characters with different abilities.
That could add another layer of customization to the combat system established in Remake and expanded in Rebirth.
Typhon Returns as a Summon
The trailer also revealed Typhon.
Longtime fans may remember the unusual summon from the original Final Fantasy VII.
Revelation brings Typhon back with a completely modernized appearance.
Players who have save data from the previous games can also receive additional summon bonuses.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade save data unlocks Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth save data unlocks Phoenix Summon Materia.
Everything Leads to the Final Battle
Revelation will conclude the story Square Enix started with Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Meteor threatens the planet, the Weapons have awakened and Sephiroth’s plans are approaching their final stage.
Cloud and his companions must now bring the journey to an end.
Square Enix has spent years rebuilding one of gaming’s most famous RPGs across three massive games.
In 2027, we’ll finally see how it ends.
When Does Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release?
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for spring 2027.
It will launch simultaneously on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC via Steam
- PC via Epic Games Store
- Xbox on PC
Square Enix has not announced an exact release date yet.
For the first time in the remake trilogy, players across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC will be able to experience a new chapter together from day one.
That alone makes Revelation a very different Final Fantasy VII launch.
