Crimson Desert is getting bigger.
Pearl Abyss has officially confirmed that the first major DLC for Crimson Desert is in development, and players may not have to wait very long to experience it.
The developer is targeting a 2026 release for the upcoming DLC. More importantly, Pearl Abyss says additional information about its structure, pricing, and exact release schedule is expected during the third quarter of 2026.
That gives Crimson Desert players plenty to look forward to.
Here is everything we know about the Crimson Desert DLC so far.
Is Crimson Desert DLC Officially Confirmed?
Yes.
Pearl Abyss first publicly confirmed that it was working on upcoming DLC in its June 2026 developer update.
At the time, the studio didn’t reveal what the expansion would contain. However, it described the DLC as something intended to be a meaningful addition to the player’s journey through Pywel.
We now know more.
In August, Pearl Abyss confirmed that development of the first DLC is underway and that the company is targeting a release within 2026.
That is much more significant than simply saying DLC is planned for the future.
Crimson Desert’s first major expansion is actively being developed.
When Will the Crimson Desert DLC Release?
There is no exact release date yet.
Pearl Abyss is currently targeting a release in 2026.
The company also plans to reveal more information during Q3 2026, including details about:
- The DLC’s structure
- Pricing
- The exact release schedule
Until Pearl Abyss announces a specific date, players should treat any more precise release dates circulating online as speculation.
What Will Be Included in the Crimson Desert DLC?
This is still the biggest mystery.
Pearl Abyss has not revealed the DLC’s location, story, characters, enemies, bosses, or other major gameplay features.
However, the developer has said it wants the first DLC to deliver a new gameplay experience.
That leaves a lot of possibilities.
Crimson Desert already gives Pearl Abyss an enormous world to build upon. New regions, quests, enemies, bosses, weapons, characters, and gameplay systems could all make sense for an expansion.
For now, none of those additions have been officially confirmed.
Don’t Confuse the New DLC With the Deluxe Pack
Crimson Desert already has downloadable content available, including its Deluxe Pack and soundtrack.
However, those aren’t the major upcoming DLC Pearl Abyss is currently developing.
The Deluxe Pack mainly provides additional cosmetic content such as armor and horse equipment.
The upcoming DLC is different.
Pearl Abyss is talking about expanding Crimson Desert with additional gameplay content and extending the life of the game.
That makes the upcoming expansion much more interesting for players who have already spent dozens of hours exploring Pywel.
Crimson Desert Is Still Getting Free Updates
The DLC isn’t the only new content coming to Crimson Desert.
Pearl Abyss has continued updating the game since launch.
Its June through September development plans included improvements to the story, additional combat content, changes to Re-Blockades, cross-save support, character improvements, and quality-of-life updates.
The game has continued evolving beyond its original launch version.
That also gives us an idea of Pearl Abyss’ approach to Crimson Desert.
Instead of abandoning the game after release and immediately moving on, the developer appears interested in continuing to expand and improve Pywel.
Could Crimson Desert Get More DLC?
Very possibly.
Pearl Abyss has described Crimson Desert as an IP with significant room to expand through its world, characters, and regions.
The company has also discussed extending the game’s lifecycle through continued content.
However, Pearl Abyss isn’t committing to a specific number of expansions yet.
Its immediate priority is completing the first DLC and making sure it meets the quality players expect.
If that expansion performs well, it would be surprising if it were the last time we returned to Pywel.
Could Multiplayer Eventually Come to Crimson Desert?
This is where things get especially interesting.
Crimson Desert launched as a single-player experience, but Pearl Abyss has discussed multiplayer as one possible direction for the franchise’s future.
That does not mean multiplayer is confirmed for the upcoming DLC.
Adding multiplayer would require much more than simply allowing another player to join the game. Server infrastructure, game balance, cross-platform compatibility, and other systems would need to be addressed.
For now, players should consider multiplayer a possible long-term direction rather than a confirmed DLC feature.
Still, the fact that Pearl Abyss is thinking beyond a single game suggests Crimson Desert could become a much larger franchise.
Crimson Desert May Be Just Getting Started
Crimson Desert launched on March 19, 2026, but Pearl Abyss clearly isn’t treating the game as a one-and-done release.
Free updates have continued improving and expanding the experience, while the first major DLC is now actively being developed.
We still need the most important details.
What will the DLC actually contain?
How large will it be?
How much will it cost?
And when exactly can we play it?
Pearl Abyss says more information is coming, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long for answers.
We’ll update this article as soon as new Crimson Desert DLC details are officially announced.
For now, one thing is certain: our journey through Pywel isn’t over yet.
