Grand Theft Auto VI is finally set to arrive later this year, but players may have to wait a little longer for its multiplayer experience.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently suggested that GTA 6 multiplayer could arrive sometime in 2027.
During a discussion about GTA 6 and its potential impact on Twitch creators, Clancy spoke about another major wave of interest coming when the game’s multiplayer component launches “next year.”
That comment has quickly caught the attention of GTA fans.
Rockstar Hasn’t Confirmed a GTA 6 Multiplayer Release Date
This is the important part.
Rockstar Games has not officially announced a release date for GTA 6’s multiplayer component.
GTA VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The official PlayStation listing currently describes GTA VI as a single-player game. Rockstar has also yet to reveal exactly how the next generation of GTA multiplayer will work or whether it will continue using the GTA Online name.
Because of that, Clancy’s comments shouldn’t be treated as confirmation of a 2027 launch.
However, his position at Twitch makes the comment particularly interesting, especially considering how important GTA Online and GTA role-playing streams have become on the platform.
Could GTA 6 Launch Without GTA Online?
It wouldn’t be unprecedented.
When Grand Theft Auto V originally launched in September 2013, GTA Online followed roughly two weeks later.
Red Dead Redemption 2 had an even larger gap. The game launched in October 2018, while Red Dead Online entered beta the following month.
With GTA VI expected to be Rockstar’s biggest release yet, the company could once again focus on the single-player experience before launching its next major online platform.
A 2027 multiplayer release would represent a much longer gap, but Rockstar hasn’t revealed its plans yet.
What Happens to the Current GTA Online?
Another big question is what happens to GTA Online when GTA VI arrives.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously indicated that the existing GTA Online won’t necessarily disappear simply because GTA VI has launched.
That’s important considering GTA Online has built a massive community over more than a decade.
Rockstar could potentially support the existing GTA Online while preparing or launching a completely new multiplayer experience connected to GTA VI.
For now, though, we’ll have to wait for Rockstar to explain exactly what comes next.

GTA VI launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A PC version has not yet been officially announced.
As for GTA 6 multiplayer, 2027 is now an interesting possibility, but until Rockstar makes an announcement, there’s no confirmed release date.
