Pearl Abyss is expanding the world of Crimson Desert in a big way.
The developer has officially revealed Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown, a new DLC expansion that takes players beyond the familiar lands of Pywel and out onto the open ocean.
The expansion was revealed during PlayStation’s September 3 State of Play with a new trailer showing ships, underwater exploration, new enemies, expanded housing and much more.
Charting the Unknown Takes Crimson Desert to the Ocean
One of the biggest additions is full ocean exploration.
Players will be able to take command of a ship and sail beyond Pywel’s coastline to discover new islands. Exploration doesn’t stop at the surface either.
Players can dive underwater to search for treasure, explore sunken ruins and uncover mysteries hidden beneath the waves.
This could significantly expand the sense of exploration already at the heart of Crimson Desert.
New Enemies and Challenges Await
The new areas aren’t just there for sightseeing.
Pearl Abyss says players will encounter powerful new enemies across both land and sea. The expansion is designed to introduce new dangers that require players to adapt their tactics depending on the situation.
The announcement trailer gives players a glimpse at some of these encounters, including massive enemies and battles taking place across the newly expanded world.
Housing and Facility Management Are Expanding
Charting the Unknown also adds more ways to build a life in Pywel.
An upgraded Housing mode will give players more freedom to create and customize their own home.
Players will also be able to rent and manage different facilities to earn money. Meanwhile, expanded interactions with Pywel’s residents will allow players to develop deeper relationships with people throughout the world.
These additions could give players more reasons to spend time exploring Pywel outside of combat and the main story.
New Stories for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane
The DLC will continue expanding the story of Crimson Desert.
Pearl Abyss says new storylines will include a mysterious presence in the desert, political conflict, a journey beyond time and an ancient secret hidden beneath the ocean.
Kliff, Oongka and Damiane will each continue their journeys as they discover their purpose and shape their futures in Pywel.

A Major Expansion for Crimson Desert
Charting the Unknown appears to be much more than a small content update.
Ocean travel, explorable islands, underwater areas, new stories, tougher enemies, expanded housing and facility management could substantially increase the amount of content available in Crimson Desert.
With the expansion arriving October 15, players won’t have long to wait before heading beyond Pywel’s shores.
