The God of War TV Series Is Officially Moving Forward
Amazon Prime Video is developing a live-action adaptation of God of War, based primarily on the Norse-era storyline introduced in 2018’s reboot and expanded in God of War Ragnarök.
The series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and PlayStation Productions. It has reportedly received a two-season order, signaling strong confidence from Amazon.
Filming began in February 2026 in Vancouver, Canada.
There is no confirmed release date yet, but a late 2027 premiere is currently the most realistic window.
What Story Will the Show Follow?
The show is expected to adapt the Norse saga beginning with the 2018 God of War.
For those who played it, you already know this isn’t just about gods fighting.
The story follows Kratos, now living in the Norse realms, raising his son Atreus after the death of his wife Faye. Their journey to scatter her ashes at the highest peak in the realms becomes a deeply emotional father-son story layered with prophecy, identity, and mythological conflict.

Can It Reach Fallout Levels?

If Amazon leans into the emotional depth and mythic scale properly, this could become one of Prime Video’s flagship fantasy series.
If they dilute the tone or modernize it too heavily, fans will call it out immediately.
