One of Nintendo’s most iconic games is officially making a comeback.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, bringing the Nintendo 64 classic to a new generation of players. Nintendo announced the game during its June 2026 Nintendo Direct.
Ocarina of Time Is Being Reborn for Switch 2
This isn’t simply Nintendo adding the original Nintendo 64 version to another collection.
Nintendo describes Ocarina of Time as being “reborn” for Nintendo Switch 2, and the reveal showed Link and the world of Hyrule with completely updated visuals.
That’s exciting because Ocarina of Time remains one of the most important games in Nintendo’s history.
Originally released in 1998, the game brought The Legend of Zelda into 3D and introduced players to an adventure across Hyrule involving Link, Princess Zelda, Ganondorf and the legendary Master Sword.
Now Nintendo has an opportunity to introduce that adventure to an entirely new generation.
What Will Be Different?
This is also where we’re going to have to wait.
Nintendo has not yet provided a detailed breakdown of everything being changed for the Switch 2 release.
We know the game features dramatically updated visuals, but Nintendo hasn’t fully explained potential changes to combat, controls, dungeons, exploration or other gameplay systems.
There is plenty Nintendo could modernize while still keeping the original experience intact.
Improved camera controls, smoother combat, updated menus and other quality-of-life improvements could make Ocarina of Time feel much better for modern players.
For now, however, we’ll have to wait for Nintendo to reveal more.
When Does Ocarina of Time Release?
Nintendo currently lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
An exact release date has not been announced.
With updated visuals and one of Nintendo’s most celebrated adventures at its core, Ocarina of Time could quickly become one of the most anticipated Switch 2 releases of 2026.
