Marvel’s Wolverine is almost here.

Insomniac Games will release its next Marvel game on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

After years of waiting, we now know much more about Wolverine’s story, combat, characters, locations, editions, and gameplay.

The game also takes a different approach from Marvel’s Spider-Man. Wolverine is a violent single-player action game built around Logan’s claws, Rage, healing ability, and aggressive fighting style.

If you are thinking about buying Marvel’s Wolverine, here is what you need to know.

Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date

Marvel’s Wolverine releases on September 15, 2026.

The game is being developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Insomniac is the same studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

However, Wolverine has a much darker tone.

PlayStation describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game.

What Platforms Will Marvel’s Wolverine Be On?

Marvel’s Wolverine launches exclusively on PlayStation 5.

There is no PS4 version.

Insomniac built the game specifically for the PS5 generation. It is also PS5 Pro Enhanced.

For now, PlayStation has announced no PC version.

Sony has brought several former PlayStation exclusives to PC in recent years. However, that does not confirm Wolverine will receive a PC release.

At launch, you will need a PS5 or PS5 Pro to play it.

How Much Does Marvel’s Wolverine Cost in Canada?

The Standard Edition currently costs $89.99 CAD through the Canadian PlayStation Store.

It includes the complete base game.

A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available. In addition, Standard Edition owners will have the option to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

What Comes With a Marvel’s Wolverine Preorder?

Preordering gives players several early unlocks.

These include the Classic Brown suit, Reflective Claws, one additional Technique Point, and four PlayStation avatars.

The suit and claws are early unlocks rather than separate gameplay advantages.

That means you can still progress through the game normally without relying on the preorder bonuses.

What Comes With the Digital Deluxe Edition?

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the game and preorder bonuses.

It also adds five exclusive suits.

These include Incredible, Savage, Age of Apocalypse, Night Hunt, and New Leather.

Players also receive five exclusive claw designs and three additional Technique Points.

The claw designs include Smooth-Edged Claws, Hollow Blade Claws, Thick Claws, Serrated Spine Claws, and Tapered Claws.

Most of these extras focus on customization.

So, players who only care about experiencing Wolverine’s story may be perfectly happy with the Standard Edition.

What Is Marvel’s Wolverine About?

Marvel’s Wolverine tells an original story centered around James “Logan” Howlett.

Mutants are living in fear while powerful enemies hunt them.

Logan eventually rejoins Team X after leaving the group three years earlier.

Team X has become one of the last groups capable of fighting back against the growing threat to mutants.

Jean Grey also plays an important role in the story.

Meanwhile, Logan will face enemies connected to Bolivar Trask, including heavily armed Reavers equipped with cybernetic technology.

Insomniac is also exploring Logan’s forgotten past.

That gives the studio room to tell a Wolverine story that deals with identity, loyalty, rage, and Logan’s relationship with other mutants.

Wolverine Is the Only Playable Character

Wolverine will remain the playable character throughout the game.

Other characters can fight alongside Logan and play major roles in the story. However, players will stay in control of Wolverine.

That keeps the gameplay focused on Logan and his abilities.

Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Mystique, and other characters can still appear during combat and story sequences.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Open World?

No.

Marvel’s Wolverine is not an open-world game.

PlayStation describes it as a narrative-driven action-adventure experience.

That is an important difference from Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Instead of giving players one large open city, Wolverine takes Logan across several locations around the world.

Where Does Marvel’s Wolverine Take Place?

Logan’s journey covers several locations.

One of them is Canada.

Players will travel through the frozen Canadian wilderness as part of Wolverine’s story.

The game also takes Logan to Tokyo and Madripoor.

Madripoor should be familiar to longtime Wolverine and Marvel fans. The fictional island has appeared throughout Wolverine’s comic history.

Moving between several locations should give the game more visual variety than staying in one city.

How Does Combat Work?

Combat looks much more aggressive than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.

Wolverine uses his adamantium claws for fast attacks and brutal finishing moves.

However, players have more options than simply attacking enemies head-on.

Logan can stalk enemies, attack from above, and ambush opponents.

Players can also use different Techniques and Adaptations to change how Wolverine fights.

Another important mechanic is Rage.

Aggressive combat builds Rage, which allows Wolverine to become even more dangerous during fights.

Wolverine Can Take Damage

Logan may have a powerful healing ability, but that does not make him invincible.

Players will still need to learn enemy attacks, timing, parries, and combat abilities.

That should prevent Wolverine from becoming a simple button-mashing experience.

His healing ability is part of the character, but players still need to fight carefully against stronger enemies.

How Violent Is Marvel’s Wolverine?

Very.

Marvel’s Wolverine has an M rating.

The ESRB content description includes blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, drug references, and partial nudity.

That makes Wolverine a much more mature Marvel game than Insomniac’s Spider-Man series.

The combat reflects that rating.

Wolverine uses his claws exactly how you would expect him to.

Which Villains Are in Marvel’s Wolverine?

Insomniac has already revealed several recognizable enemies and characters.

Bolivar Trask plays a major role in the threat facing mutants.

Players will also encounter Reavers.

Omega Red has been confirmed as an enemy.

Sabretooth has also appeared.

Insomniac continues to keep parts of the story secret, so more characters could appear when the game launches.

Marvel’s Wolverine Has a Prequel Comic

Players who want more story before September can read the official Marvel’s Wolverine prequel comic.

Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams wrote the comic, with artwork from Luke Ross.

The story explores events before the game and provides more background on Logan’s relationship with Team X.

The digital version is available through Marvel Unlimited.

Will Marvel’s Wolverine Have Accessibility Options?

Yes.

Insomniac says Marvel’s Wolverine will launch with a large collection of accessibility features.

These include options designed to assist players with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor needs.

The Canadian PlayStation Store currently lists 35 accessibility features.

Accessibility has become an important part of Insomniac’s recent games, and Wolverine continues that approach.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Coming to PC?

PlayStation has announced Marvel’s Wolverine for PS5 only.

There is currently no confirmed PC release date.

A future PC version is possible, especially given Sony’s history of bringing games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and other PlayStation titles to PC.

However, PC players should not treat that as confirmation.

As of now, Marvel’s Wolverine launches only on PS5.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Worth Preordering?

There is enough information now to understand what kind of game Insomniac is making.

If you want a mature Wolverine game with brutal combat, a story focused on Logan, and several locations around the world, Marvel’s Wolverine looks promising.

However, the Standard Edition gives you the main experience.

The Digital Deluxe Edition mainly adds cosmetic suits, claw designs, and extra Technique Points.

For many players, the Standard Edition should be enough.

Players who want the additional Wolverine customization options may prefer the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Should You Buy Marvel’s Wolverine?

Marvel’s Wolverine has become one of the biggest PlayStation releases of 2026.

Insomniac is taking the character in a darker direction than Spider-Man.

The M rating allows Wolverine’s claws and fighting style to play a much larger role in combat. Meanwhile, the story puts Logan at the center of a growing fight for mutant survival.

The global locations also give Insomniac an opportunity to move beyond the city structure used in its Spider-Man games.

Marvel’s Wolverine releases September 15, 2026, for PS5.

If Insomniac can combine its character-driven storytelling with combat that actually feels like Wolverine, this could become one of the most interesting Marvel games PlayStation has released.
